GOOD STORY RYAN [Feb. 10th, 2005|01:47 pm]
Ryan
So my computer has been blinking off and rebooting with increasing regularity lately. I thought it was a software problem, but nothing had changed! THEN I thought maybe it was the power supply, so I swapped in another one, but the reboots continued.

I figured out today that both powersupplies I tested have a 12V feed that creeps up around 13.5V, and that's what was causing the reboots! Luckily I have a third power supply just sitting around, and that seems to work.

MORAL: WHATEVER

I collect power supplies like other men collect meaningful relationships!

THAT IS TO SAY, AT THE RATE OF ABOUT ONE A YEAR

Is this like when you hit your chest and then stick your arms out to the side and say "WHAT!" as if to indicate you want to fight?

Or the increasingly popular "affirmative WHAT", as in, "So when I was done compiling the kernel, I still had time to check my blog and get a cup of coffee before Lumbourgh knew what was up. WHAT."

Re: A BETTER STORY

I installed Linux once and I didn't have a volume control!

Or 3D acceleration!

The exact same thing happened to me! Only I blew my motherboard and CPU by connecting my new power supply incorrectly! True story!

Haha! I did that with my last motherboard. I had a faulty PS and I kept switching stuff, etc, and then one time accidently plugged in the motherboard while the powersupply was life. I could see the electricity arc across the CPU from beneath the fan!

I was like, WHAT

Yes! Arcing electricity and the resulting smoke is at once both spectacular and awesome... until you have to go back to the store and embarrassedly explain why you're trying to return said motherboard and CPU.

Wow. You should totally write a book about this.

Ooooh, and then it can be made into a horrible movie adaption starring Brad Pitt and some washed up hollywood actress whose lips account for over 50% of their facial mass.

It'll be awful great!

Bah! When my computer started rebooting with increasing regularity, I didn't change the power supply, you pussy—I bought a new motherboard! And a DVD burner!

Because that's the way I liked it!

But I already have a new motherboard and TWO DVD BURNERS THAT CAN BE CONFIGURED TO SHOOT LASERS OUT OF THE CHASSIS IN CASE OF BURGLER ALERTS

PROBABLY

I see your laser-beam DVD-Rs, and raise you A COMPUTER THAT WON'T SHUT DOWN THE FIRST TIME YOU TRY IT ONLY MAKES A LOW PITCHED BEEP THROUGH THE PC SPEAKER BUT THEN IT SHUTS DOWN FINE.

Well done on the system improvements, though.
